Kumdo Sword Arts

Kumdo, meaning "way of the sword", is very similar to Japanese Kendo.  Practitioners, using the jukdo (bamboo sword) for striking, wear a helmet and hard body protector so that they are able to practice full contact strikes to the head and body.  Kumdo is an exacting art, with an emphasis on precision and attitude, rather than solely speed or strength.

Kumdo also encompasses practice with the wooden sword and, eventually, the sharp sword (Kumbub). This practice focuses on performing forms/patterns, arranged sparring (attack/counter-attack), and drawing the sword.

Kumdo/Kumbub is an elite art, in the tradition of the sword-weilding warriors of old.

Our training is under the direction of Great Grand Master Moo Yong Yun. Great Grand Master Yun is the founder of  the International Black Belt Federation and Kum Ae Dang, our Kumdo/Kumbub organization. Our Kumdo Master Instructor is Grand Master Eric Greenquist.

We are also affiliated with the International Kumbub Kumdo Federation of Seoul, South Korea, under the direction of Grand Master Chan Ju Jung.

Kumdo is taught as a separate art/class from our usual Taekwondo training.

Kumdo class is conducted on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM and Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Students may attend one or both classes. The minimum age for participation is 13 years old.
