Taekwondo for Women
![]() |
More women practice Taekwondo than any other martial art. Ask most women why they practice Taekwondo and they invariably give one or both of two answers: fitness and self-defense.
Women like Taekwondo because it provides a comprehensive fitness regimen that women of any age and ability can follow, working at their own pace and increasing the intensity as they are able. In Taekwondo training, a woman is not simply doing repetitive aerobics for no particular purpose. Rather, in Taekwondo classes, a woman trains like an athlete, like an fighter, improving conditioning, quickness, agility, flexibility, and muscle strength and endurance. What that provides is the basis for not only becoming more fit, but achieving goals such as improved health, improved appearance, and weight loss.
Of course, the purpose of that fitness is self-defense, and that is the second area of interest for most women. Taekwondo is physical activity with a purpose, and that purpose is developing skills for self-defense. It is not simply going through the motions of fighting, but actually training to use your body to fight, to protect yourself or loved ones.
Additionally, Taekewondo's belt ranking promotion system and our structured curriculum provide motivation for training. New techniques and skills are introduced at each promotion level, which keeps practice fresh and interesting. There's no need to drop out of Taekwondo training for some new, more interesting activity; every few months, the students are learning more techniques and new material.
Why work to simply be as fit as a black belt when you can actually become one??
